MINI BIBLE STUDY THIS WEEK WITH JEN

When you do Bible study with me… I’m going to ask you…
WHO IS GOD?
WHO IS JESUS?
WHO IS THE HOLY SPIRIT according to this passage.
IF GOD IS who he says he is….
what is your I AM… your identity… from God’s perspective?
God if you are….
then I am….

Take time to read this story in Mark 5:24-34 (in more than one version of you like. It’s at the end here for you too). It’s 10 verses. It’s a story told from Mark’s perspective. He quotes Jesus. The red letters are some of my favorite. Some Bibles print what Jesus said, in red.
SHARE WITH US: what you learned about who God/Jesus/HS is & who you are from God’s perspective… I shared my take away in photos & Devo below.

DEVO FROM JEN
Have you ever felt overwhelmed? Me too. When I’m overwhelmed I want power over the situation.
For a minute think about power. When you think of power what do you think of?
I think of electricity, government, surgeon or a carpenter… power is the ability to create and change outcomes.
Where do you feel powerless?
I feel powerless over my addictions. Over my future. Over the unknown. Over outcomes with my kids. Over elections & wars.
Check this sermon out… it ministered deeply to me this week.
It can be overwhelming to have to “man up”. I needed this reminder that it’s not “man up” it’s MAN DOWN… that we can fall at the feet of Jesus. Another powerful story in here is the unclean woman who crawled to Jesus. Here’s a reminder, power isn’t in manning up or coming in strong. JESUS accepts us on our knees. Jesus IS strong & he knows our weakness. Crawling in… you’re welcome here. Because got to the feet of Jesus. HE IS, He sees, He knows.

“And Jesus, perceiving in himself that power had gone out from him, immediately turned about in the crowd and said, “Who touched my garments?””

What went out of Jesus?
Was Jesus upset at the unclean woman?
What did Jesus call her?
What did Jesus’s power do?
What did Jesus see in this woman?

“And he said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace, and be healed of your disease.””

If we know WHO JESUS is… we will know who we are.
Jesus we can crawl to you, unclean. Make us clean. We’ve tried everything, and you are what we need. Help us get humble before you, on our knees. Jesus you full of power (So I am protected), you call us daughters and sons (so, I am part of your family, I am known, seen, secure, and loved), you Jesus can make us well, so we bring to you our sickness, our struggle, our sin, our unclean choices, thoughts, habits, relationships, the parts of ourselves we don’t want anyone to see, we don’t like this part of ourselves, and we can’t seem to get clean. We need you Jesus. Please give us clean hands and a pure heart. Make us well. Your righteousness not ours. You save us. We have faith in you. We believe. We ask for your peace that surpasses all understanding. Thanks for loving us! We like being your sons and daughters. You are peace. You are power. You make us well. Praise you.

REAL QUICK ABOUT ME
At some point in the past five years God put it on my mind to read with a few questions in mind:
What do I learn here about the character qualities of God?
Who is The Father? Who is Jesus?
Who is the Holy Spirit?
IF I believe GOD, IF I believe the Father, Jesus, the Holy Spirit is who he says he is…. Then, who am I?

In a day and age where I see our identity is under attack… sometimes from even our own minds, this line of thinking has been a solid foundation.

Quick story:
Image a middle school tuba player who loved theater and dressing up in funny costumes playing roles. A student easy to laugh at themselves, and kind to others. Not sporty or competitive. On her last day of middle school she cleaned up her locker and her mom asked her how she wanted to celebrate. As they left the school all the soccer girls and their mom’s were outside deciding the same thing. They glanced at her in disgust attacking her identity….

Questions from a year of not being a cool kid flooded her mind…
am I disgusting
am I worth of friends
am I dumb am I a loser the list goes on……..

I get it… I can relate somedays… I look at social media and think…. Oh man
am I desirable
am I rich enough
am I worth knowing? Inviting?
am I ugly, unwanted, ever going to be enough?

The attack is on our identity.
Kids come home and say, “I am dumb” after a bad grade or a conflict with a teacher or a friend.

The mom in me would say, “ No, no one gets to give you your I AM, your identity. Only God gets to do that. That’s above our pay grade.”

You can own, "I got a bad grade so I feel dumb.” But not, “I am dumb.” “I acted dumb.” is different than “I am”.

I turned to scriptures to help myself help kids. I looked at God’s word and asked, “God, please show me how you see my kids. How do you see me, because I see the joy and life going out of them with every glance of disgust. Every social media post."

I started a brand called WORTHIT. I made shirts and jewelry, coffee cups and water bottles to remind every person on earth they are worth it.

God does a good job of wanting us to know him and be found in him. He says a lot about who he is. He tells us, He shows us, He demonstrates to us who he is. Everything changes when we find our life in Him. Who we are.

I started telling myself and my kids who God says they are. His words, as promised are full of power, more power than our own mind or even a repeated look of disgust.
If God, or Jesus, or the Holy Spirit says “I am….”
If I learn about the character of the Father, Jesus, or The Holy Spirit… I ask Who are you God…. If you are….. who am I.

It started with Jesus saying you are my children. Jesus identity as KING of kings. I would tell my kids every day in a note in their lunch box, you are a daughter/son of the KING of kings. Dearly loved! Precious in His sight.

When my daughter turned 18 she got a tattoo. I’m not sure she remembered her lunch box notes. Her first tattoo says, “beloved Daughter of the KING of kings”.

When you do Bible study with me… I’m going to ask you… WHO IS GOD? WHO IS JESUS? WHO IS THE HOLY SPIRIT according to this passage.
IF GOD IS who he says he is….
what is your I AM… your identity… from God’s perspective?
God if you are….
then I am….
God if you are KING of kings and call me your child and love me… I AM a beloved daughter of the KING of kings.
GOD IS OUR ROCK on HIM we stand.
MARK 5:24-34
“And he went with him. And a great crowd followed him and thronged about him. And there was a woman who had had a discharge of blood for twelve years, and who had suffered much under many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was no better but rather grew worse. She had heard the reports about Jesus and came up behind him in the crowd and touched his garment. For she said, “If I touch even his garments, I will be made well.” And immediately the flow of blood dried up, and she felt in her body that she was healed of her disease. And Jesus, perceiving in himself that power had gone out from him, immediately turned about in the crowd and said, “Who touched my garments?” And his disciples said to him, “You see the crowd pressing around you, and yet you say, ‘Who touched me?’” And he looked around to see who had done it. But the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came in fear and trembling and fell down before him and told him the whole truth. And he said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace, and be healed of your disease.””
