I did it!
I managed a weekend of work and kids with Scott out of town. Everyone is safe
and happy, lunches are made and everyone is about to get in bed. Jess has been
riding me about how I rarely relax. It's true, I have a hard time chillin' it.
I like to be productive and in general I don't find relaxing productive. Once I
suggested we put a theater in our basement and Scott laughed at me. He said,
"If we want to watch movies with you then we will need to do it near the
kitchen. I don't want to be in the basement alone." Touché. I like to cook
or bake while watching TV. I guess the kids are getting older and things are
getting easier. They can empty the dishwasher, sort the laundry and clean their
rooms. If the house is at least bearable then I feel like I can relax. I
decided that this season I would sit and watch every game the Broncos play.
Well, that maybe a stretch so I'll go with Pete Carroll's philosophy, one game
at a time. I watched the game today. I just sat and relaxed and watched the
game. It was fabulous! I have the Raven's defense on my fantasy team and the
Broncos are my fave so it was a perfect game. Close, the Broncos won and the
Raven's defense racked up 25 points for my fantasy team.
Scott
swung by for a much-needed shower and then headed off to work at the Denver
Campus. He got a chance to go to service. It was so good. He texted me and
said, "This is a great service!! Thank you for understanding my new job
and allowing me to be here!" I replied with the angel emoji and a wink. He
posted this quote, "It's good for a man's heart to be in the habit of
taking responsibility." My dad used to say, "If you have to explain,
don't bother." I think that's a bit negative, but the point may be
similar. No excuses. Own it. That's what I walked away with this weekend too. I
make excuses way too much. Blame is definitely a bad habit of mine. I hope I
can continue to work on this personally and our family can work on taking
personal responsibility. It's freeing. I also LOVED the end of the service, the encouragement
in Hebrews 12. It's kind of like a pep talk. Don't give up! You've got this! LOVE.
I ran to
the grocery store to grab some deli meats tonight. There was a mom whose
6-year-old boy was giving her a run for her money. I kept bumping into her in
the store. I couldn't really tell what he was doing but I just kept hearing her
say, "stop!" We checked out on different lanes, but at the same time.
Her son was riding the penny horse directly in front of me. He had one hand in
the air and the other proudly grabbing his crotch while thrusting his hips back
and forth as if he were riding a mechanical bull in a bar six beers deep. He shouted,
"MOM" trying to get her admiration for his bull riding skills. She
yelled back, "OMG STOP!" in a slightly humorous tone. I was LMAO as I
drove by, boys will be boys! On that note have you ever watched a Cowboy Abs video online? You should Google it. Hilarious!
That's a
wrap for this weekend. Tomorrow is a new day.
