Discipleship
“Private prayer and private morality are one of the nonnegotiable demands inherent within Christian discipleship……In the spelling out of demands of discipleship, Jesus clearly asks several things of us: first, that we have a relationship with both his Father and him “in secret,” in private. Obviously, to establish and maintain that, we will need to pray, honestly and deeply, in private……Aa Christian, we are asked to cultivate an intimacy with Jesus, in private…..Second, tied to Jesus’ invitation to meet him in private in the depths of our hearts, is the concomitant invitation to keep the private depths of our hearts honest and integral. Simply stated, Jesus tells us if anyone loves me, he or she will keep my commandments. …. Our prayer is honest only when our lives back it up.”
“Private prayer and private morality are one of the nonnegotiable demands inherent within Christian discipleship.” Ronald Rolheiser “Sacred Fire”
In contemporary language I’d say, prayer is who we turn to, it’s our intimate communication connection to God, who is alive! God is in it with us. Though it may seem odd at first, talk to God. Read His word. He said His word is living and active. Ask the Holy Spirit to teach you. Then, as you learn the ways of Jesus and God practice walking in them. You’ll find that He indeed wants good for you. There are a million ways to do life, but God has an upside down way of helping us live abundant lives. His way is counterintuitive and often counterculture. So you can’t just float down stream. His way is like a salmon swimming upstream, against the current. But it’s simple. In His way, you’ll find the richest of life!
A journey worth everything it costs you, it will cost you everything, your very life. As you lose your life you find your life in him. In the end you will breath your last with a full life, abundant, eyes who have seen the glory of God, and a strong warrior, laid back saying #worthit.” - Jen 🔥
