Coffee at Summer Moon

Have you tried Summer Moon Coffee in Thornton? So good!!
I recommend a shaker 1/2 sweet iced! Mmmmm!!

I lead a community group and there are a few people who signed up, but have never showed up. I get it! It’s weird to walk into a stranger’s house! I decided to reach out and invite the no shows to a coffee, maybe that’s an easier way to meet.

Three people said yes. I brought books, thinking I could be alone at this coffee shop for three hours.

My work is finally slow enough I have capacity for others. Anyway.. I was nervous and curious how this would go. I thought back to my MOPS days where we tried to get coffee with everyone in our group at least once a semester. If you lead a group, I think that’s a good goal, to meet with everybody one on one, once a semester. Groups are great, but that face time is unmatched.

So here’s how it went. First person was a no show.

The second girl was ten minutes early. Meeting her was WORTH IT. The second girl was ten minutes late, and she came with her one year old in her arms.

I’m now in my car the sun on my face. It’s quiet in here. There’s a lot of people rolling through Summer Moon on a Saturday.

One gal shared her story of addiction and abuse, going to shift, meeting Jesus, and her recovery story. She’s amazed at all the ways she sees God in her life. She said she wished she knew that when she turned to substances in depression how deep she would go and what it would take to get out. Now that she’s seeking God, she sees him everywhere. She’s realizing it’s not circumstantial it that God has been there all along, and now she’s seeing him.

The other girl was young, living on her own, and real lonely. She prayed for a job and got a good one. But, she works alone, works a lot, and is praying for community. She’s not close to her family, has no dad, and no friends she told me and the tears just spilled over her eyelids.

Today, I was reminded that…

- God doesn’t need me, He is at work.

- if I’m faithful and obedient to where He has called me, I get to meet people He loves and see Him at work.

I feel humbled. Reminded again why God has is at Flatirons still. Because God is using that place to meet His people. I feel like an ancient rock there. I don’t want to forget WHY… it’s always about the gospel. Today I sat and listened to people tell me that Jesus saved them. Jesus is the best news in their life.

This verse always comes back to me: “Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.”

‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭10‬:‭23‬-‭25‬ ‭ESV‬‬
