Dear Emily....

Image
Dear Emily.... Emily and I were walking yesterday talking about our life and all the the things we try to fit into it. Her mom recently said, "Emily, don't try to shoehorn it in." She asked kindly, "Why do you do that? I don't like it when I do that in my life."  A corollary from Vivian...shoehorns are usually used when a shoe is tight. I loved this saying. I am going to ask myself, am I trying to shoehorn that in to my day? Thanks Emily and Vivian! I appreciate you kind word into my life.

Scary Close

WELCOME to Page Turner Tuesday 2016 Book Club with Life in a Larger Story Scary Close   dropping the act and finding true intimacy by Donald Miller I am jealous of Donald Miller. He is a deep writer who is easy to read, he's honest and his honesty is appealing. This book follows suit. My buddy Natalie said she was enjoying this book so I jumped on board. Natalie and I walk a few times a month and I thought it would add vigor to our always-interesting conversations. Donald talks a lot about his relationship with his wife in this book and I imagine we will reference his times of selfish stubbornness and his battle to be known and give and receive love. Betsy his wife seems like a strong woman who knows how to reach the heart of a lion. Donald talks about his time in therapy, I wonder if I will ever have the chance to visit the Tennessee ranch where he learned so much. They had some very interesting ways to look at how you show up in this world, I know t...

Stitch Fix Friday

Image
Here are a few of my fantastic summer fixes. A huge shout out to my stylist Rachel at Stitch Fix . Nether Button Back Blouse &  Abana Ankle Length Skinny Jean I wore this on the 3rd of July. Scott, I and our three kids along with the Olsen Family went out to see National Parks at the IMAX, dinner downtown at the Wazee Supper Club and then we let off fireworks at home that night. I love all the texture on the walls downtown Denver. The city was full of electricity this night, people were piling out of their cars with family and friends ready to enjoy a night on the town. Esten Button-Up Sleeveless Blouse I wore this to the Colorado Rapids game on the 4th of July.  It was a scorcher. We tailgated with friends, saw Tim Howard play his first game with the Rapids and we watched fireworks with our family from the field.  Lawford Knit Top & Riley Distressed Boyfriend Jean This shirt is one of my favorites. It's so comfortabl...

Super Sunday

Image
I grew up on a ranch in Colorado, so the opportunity to support a local farm every week fills me with joy. I love seeing these hard working farmers sharing the wealth of their crops with our community. It's local. It's fresh. We are eating whole foods. It's delicious. Check out www.millerfarms.net look into their CSA program. It's amazing! I had dinner at the Recess Beer Garden with these ladies. Our friendship started when we were 11 and it's still growing. These ladies are like a good wine, they get better with time. We had a rich night of conversation.

WELCOME to Page Turner Tuesday 2016 Book Club with Life in a Larger Story 13 HOURS  The inside account of what really happened in Benghazi by Mitchell Zuckoff with the Annex security team. I don't have a lot to say about this book except you should read it. It's a story of heroes, courage and valor. I have nothing but gratitude for their sacrifice and service.

Sparking Joy

Image
Here are a few things that are sparking joy in my life when I walk in my front door.  My Early Girl Tomatoes are starting to bear fruit! I love checking in on this plant every day. I must be getting old because I am finding gardening peaceful and relaxing.   My friend Jess introduced me to to Dahlias this year. This is my first one. Mai and I have been stocking them at Whole Foods and this one was our favorite for weeks now, but it was starting to die. I was looking so bad that they gave it to us for free! I took it home and cleaned it up. I am hoping that it's not too late. It's looking good so far!  This is the Dahlia that I am trying to revive!

Contacts, Contacts Everywhere

Image
PROJECT:  Here to Help by Jen Find a nice contact storage solution. Time: I've been looking a long time and I finally found something I like! After I found something, it took about 10 minutes to set up. JOY? YES!   I have been searching for a solution that sparks joy to store my contacts for awhile. I wear daily contacts. 365 contacts and nowhere to put them except in the frustrating box they came in. They are always falling out and flying around. What's left? Where's the right. Break them apart just right. Mai and I have a new solution. It's nice! Before My new contact container makes me smile! I was searching for a pencil box and I found this instead. HA!  It reminds me of my love for the ocean. It's hilarious. My husband was with me when I bought it and his face was priceless. It makes me laugh just thinking about it. It's ridiculous and it makes me smile. It also fits my shallow drawer perfectly! It also clearly distinguishes right...
