13th Birthday Party

We have a teenager! We threw our girl a 13th Birthday Party to celebrate the beginning of her teens. It was simple and sweet. She decided to have a sleepover with 7 of her friends at my mom's house. (Well sleepover aren't ever simple. They do take planning, they usually include a few hilarious moments, a few hard lessons on friendship, late nights, tired morning and a lot of laughs. Maybe I should say we keep it as simple as possible.) Here's what we did!

The celebration sparkled in aqua and gold. Jess found this cool M at Michael's on clearance and spray painted it gold. Sweet treats served as the centerpiece on the table all the girls gathered around for meals.

We met up at our house for a little hover board test drive.

Sweet smiles with the birthday girl!

While the girls were getting settled in my friend and I went on a little walk. I think it's nice as a mom throwing a party to have a few friends to hang out with too. This was a mistake that turned into a blessing. We had a miscommunication on the start time, so they drove separately. It seemed like it was a unfortunate mistake and it ended up really wonderful. We had to give Rosie some love.

I was showing Stacey around the farm and I wanted to take her out to see the pond. The thing was we opened a gate and on the other side of the gate was a cow. The cow was giving us a serious stare down, but he wasn't too close. We got about half way across the field and Stacey yells, "Jen, he's coming!" We both scream and start running on the slippery snow to the gate and jump over it. We were screaming and laughing because we made it! The cow was bucking around in circles doing a happy dance that he got us out of his area. I guess I'll have to show her the pond next time. We got a good laugh! It's been awhile since a cow has chased me.

CRAFT
Decorate a Letter

HOW TO
We bought a wooden letter for each of the girls at the party.
Paint. We choose 3 base colors, aqua, purple and gold.
Puffy Paint. We choose black, white and gold puffy paint for accent colors.
Cardboard boxes. We used boxes as our drop cloth and paint trays.
Sponge brushes. A package of these foam brushes for the main color worked great.
That's it! Set it all out and let them get creative!

Look how fantastic they all turned out!

DINNER
Make Your Own Pizza

I love make your own meals. Each girl was able to create a uniquely delicious pizza. YUM!

INGREDIENTS
Ragu Pizza Sauce
Pre-made pizza dough from Whole Foods
Sliced black olives
Sliced peppers
Pepperoni
Cheese

DIRECTIONS
Spray cookie sheet with oil.
Give each person a ball of dough and a little flour to prevent sticking.
Roll out dough.
Add toppings.
Bake at 375 until done.

These girls are ready to slide this heart pizza and a calzone into the oven.

Homemade with love!

Calzone queens.

PRESENTS
The girls wanted to open presents early! One girl had pj's she wanted to give the birthday girl for the night. Another had water balloons to play with in the pool.

DECORATIONS
We decorated a day before the party. First we hung 3 flat sheets to make a tent like feel. We were able to anchor them with tacks in the celling.
We blew up balloons and tied them to a string to make a balloon streamer.
We added in a few paper lanterns and some falling golden stars.
To top it off we added one strand of white lights.
It made the sleeping room feel really cozy and celebratory.

FUN! After presents and dinner it was time to swim!

We made waffles for breakfast with fruit on the side! They ate so late it was more like brunch! We managed to clean up and get everyone home safe and sound. My heart is tender. My baby girl is growing up. A special thanks to my mom, Jess, Scott and Stacey for keeping me company, sweet conversations and lending me a hand to pull this party off! Checking out tired and tender.
