Must See

WWII.  Do you remember this time in history?  Do your kids even know?  Oh please, share it with them.  It is hard but good to remember.  Let us not forget the many lessons our history can teach us.

If you stream on Netflix you can watch this: Masterpiece  Classic: The Diary of Anne Frank.  My daughter is studying Anne Frank in school, so we are doing our research.  It is an amazing story.  Click here for a wonderful review on the movie.  You can tour Anne Frank's secret annex here.  There is an amazing museum in Amsterdam in the Annex where they hid, which is now on our bucket list.  The museum website has a wealth of information. Here you can track where she lived in  her short 13 years.  Including pictures of her home and the concentration camps she was sent to.  Fascinating! Enjoy!  Miep is my hero.  Otto is courageous and strong for his family.  Anne's refreshing honesty and sense of hope in a locked up world is admirable.  It is an intriguing angle on WWII.  My daughter is just 9 and loved it.  Things like this stick with us.  They shape us.  I believe, if we let them, they make us better.

Mr. Dussel helps Anne after the attic hideaway has been discovered
"But that was not to be. One year before the war’s end, the Franks, Van Daans, and Albert Dussel were betrayed. All died except for Otto Frank. It is a testament to Anne’s humanity that, despite having to hide during the most formative of her young teen-aged years, she was able to write these beautiful words:" Vic

Anne Frank writes in her diary
“It’s really a wonder that I haven’t dropped all my ideals, because they seem so absurd and impossible to carry out. Yet people are really good at heart. I simply can’t build up my hopes on a foundation consisting of confusion, misery, and death. I see the world gradually being turned into a wilderness, I hear the ever approaching thunder, which will destroy us too, I can feel the sufferings of millions and yet, if I look up into the heavens, I think that it will all come right, that this cruelty too will end, and that peace and tranquility will return again”

It is my hope is that every family will sit down on Sunday night to watch this film together … The final scenes in which the Frank family and Van Daam family are found and taken from their hiding place are heart-rending. April 11 is Holocaust Remembrance Day.
