5 Tips to Warm Up Your House for Fall

Real Deal: Can you see the stack of bills on my desk? There is a HUGE stack of bills and a whole bunch of stuff I don't want to do but absolutely need to do. Therefore, I'm writing this first, then I'm going to clean my desk. I just wanted to show you the messy side of my life too. I just counted, I have 16 envelopes that need my attention and most likely my money. I have a million emails from the school that I need to see if there is anything really important I need to know. I swear I start reading emails from the school and the Charlie Brown teacher voice from the loud speaker starts playing in my head. We are going on vacation very soon and everyone wants to know when, I think it's time I figure that out. At my last job I would take one full day and an additional morning to work on my administration side of work. I learned that I also need admin days at home. Today's the day. I better find me some good coffee, a great book to listen to and get at it! But first, this post. One of my favorite topics, decorating for fall!

Fall is in the air. I rewarded myself for cleaning out my garage and putting all my moving boxes away with the treat of decorating our house for fall. Here are a 5 simple steps to warm your house up for fall.

1. REPLACE SUMMER COLORS WITH FALL COLORS
This summer I accented my house with beautiful aqua and sea blue colors. I had blankets, vases and candles in those cool summer tones. The first thing I did was take the blue away and replaced it with warm yellow and orange and a touch of green. I swapped out all my candles. I threw out a few throws that have a stripe of orange. I put my blue vases up and brought down orange and yellow ones.

2. ADD FALL FOLIAGE
Throughout my house I have a spots where I can swap out foliage. I took out my summer blooms and added in mums, I added orange berries around my fire place mantle, my console table and around my buffet in my dining room. I put fall leaves and birch tree limbs in my big vases. This adds warm season color to brighten up your home.

3. Add your fall decor. I try and add a few pieces to my fall decor each year. I also try and get rid of a few things too that no longer spark joy. Be careful to only put out what you love. When you walk through your house you want it to bring you joy. Add in some fun things that make you smile each year. This year I got rid of an old scarecrow and some broken lights. I added a few new pumpkin lanterns.

4. Signs of the season. I LOVE signs. I add in a few pieces of art that represent the season to my walls. I have a Happy Halloween sign up in my gallery wall. I also added in a few adorable cards I saw to spruce up my desks. Yes, I buy myself seasonal cards!

5. Scents! You won't believe how amazing it is to add in a few fall smells to your home. I am an essential oils lover, so I add in clove, thieves and orange to my diffuser to make my house smell amazing. Thieves hands soap smells amazing too! Add in soaps, oils and candles to add to a full body experience of fall.

Now you have it! A warm cozy fall home! If you have any questions about where I get my cozy fall decor or how to jump into essential oils feel free to message or email me at jlsevern@yahoo.com. I'm here to help!
