Life in a Larger Story's book club 2016

YES PLEASE! By Amy Poehler
I loved listening to this audiobook read by the author, Amy Poehler. It was recommended to me by one of my dear friends who is a follower of Jesus. She secretly said, "I know you will love this book, but it wouldn't be for the more conservative Christ follower." She warned me. I had to laugh and put it at the top of my list.

Amy invites a few guest readers into her audio booth for the reading and that adds interest to the book. She speaks frankly about everything from sex, drugs, parenting, show business, friendship and her career. I found it refreshing. I laughed a lot. Her openness shocked me at times. Honesty is my favorite medium so I appreciated her openness. Her language is colorful, witty and succinct. She uses illustrations, stories and humor in just the right moments to tell her story. I usually listen to books while I am in the car. I let the kids listen to parts and other parts were rated R. I saved those for when I was driving alone.

I thought her chapter on our Demons was fantastic. I loved when she compared our bodies to snowflakes, each unique. She talked about friendship and I gathered that she brings people together in small close groups. I like that. I could relate to her social anxiety. I thought her wisdom to aspiring actors was practical. Her love for her boys is like the sunshine, warm and wonderful. She honors people when she writes. She comes across as thankful. I am thankful. I recommend listing to the audio version of this book.

Remember the warning, R rated at times for colorful language and subject matter.
