A Family Fun Day In Boulder
We had a free day on Sunday. Not a single commitment on the books. No type of ball, meaning, T-ball, softball or baseball. Whew. What to do? Scott and I have been talking about romancing our children's hearts by bringing adventure into their little lives and ours too. We are home bodies and enjoy chilling at home, so it takes a little motivation to get us all united and out the door.
Yesterday I was flipping through 5280 and noticed a breakfast place called Waffle Brothers. Yum!
Treat yourself to a breakfast here. They highlighted the restaurant downtown, but after doing a little research I found there is on one the hill in Boulder too, which fit perfectly into our plans. The one on the hill is more of a take out joint. You can call ahead and order, which we did. Sunday morning as we headed into Boulder we called and ordered the delicious Natural Borne Killer, a waffle infused with Brown Sugar from Belgium and topped with strawberries, Nutella and Whipped Cream. We also got the Democrat, amazing, and The Cherry Bomb. We have two traditionalists who got the breakfast plates and tried the waffles with envy! There were two plastic tables outside with just enough shade to keep us cool as the few summer school CU students were starting to crawl out of their slumber and find breakfast too. We had way too much food! It was about $6 per plate, quite reasonable and delicious!
After that we headed up Boulder Canyon and pulled into one of the first stops up the Canyon.
We went on a little hike. This path follows Boulder Creek up the Canyon. There are mountain bikers whizzing by, rocks to climb, water to splash in and an occasional deer, lizard or marmot to be seen. Once we had scaled a few boulders, climbed to a great look out rock, splashed around in the stream and read a little of the history on the old plaques we were nice and hot and ready for a swim. We hopped back in the car and headed to Eben G. Fine Park.
Just five minutes away. It was packed with anxious tubers lugging their tubes up the hill, picnics and parties. We found a spot by the creek to set out our lunches and play in the water. There is not much run off right now, so the water flows by at a tame speed. The kids walked around hopping from rock to rock. The water was cold, but you got used to it. It was 98 degrees out, so it felt refreshing. We found boulders in the middle of the stream to lounge on. We had our lunch and then splashed around a little more and headed home all of us content and ready for a little cat nap. It was a great day.
