Day 6! 30 days to Spring Clean and Organize!

Make-up mayhem.  What is under my sink?

Today's challenge is to go to the bathroom where you get ready and clean out the the area!  All the hustle and bustle and the morning rush can leave this area a disaster over time.  It is a place we use every day, so it gets lots of love.  My area needs a make-over, and a through spring cleaning!

Every morning when I go to put on my make-up I tug on my hickory cabinet gingerly, expecting something to come crashing on to my toes.  My make-up is nicely organized into a pink polka-dot traveling case.  One section holds foundation products, one for eye make-up and one for lips.  It works well and it's washable!  It is great for running off to the gym and it's one less thing to pack when I am getting ready for a vacation.

Here is the problem.  My pink case is sitting on top of a big black caboodle type box.  It is NASTY inside.  Coated with layers of old make-up.  A screw is missing so it one side sadly sags down, but it is where I store my options.  Make-up that is outside of my everyday basics.  That must go.  I need a new solution for my extras.  The box is leather and cloth, so it just doesn't clean easily.  I have thought about showering with it or throwing it in the back of Scott's truck and running through the car wash.  Considering the fragile state it is in, I am not sure it will survive.  It's is making me a little sick to throw it out.  It's just is one big heap in a land fill.  I certainly can't buy another where it's just going to happen again in a year or two.

I bought some acrylic trays that I am going to try and keep my 'party' make-up in.  I figure I can clean them in the dish washer occasionally if needed.  I am not sure how it's all going to go down, but I'm going to try it out.

First, everything must come out of of that mysterious cabinet.  I am going to sort through all the things I will NEVER use and either donate them or recycle them.  I am going to group like objects.  I will find places for everything.  I will wipe out the bottom of that double door hickory cabinet which I am sure has collected it's fair share of grime.  I have a few other items stashed in there, like my blow dryer and flat iron.  I am going to see what else has snuck in there over time.  I may need to add a shelf or two for my acrylic trays and my clean pink polka dot make-up-on-the-run carrier.

Next, I will empty the three drawers.  The first one has hygiene products, the second hair and the wash cloths.  I will wipe them down, sort and organize.

Finally, I will attack the medicine cabinet and the counter top.

When I am all done it feels great.  The place where I spend my mornings has had a spring make-over!  I can now open my cabinet door and everything is in order.  The surfaces are clean.  There are no traces of dirt, grim, make-up or hair.  I can now enjoy what the fun products that I own, because I can see them and find them.  I feel like I have a whole new set of options.  I even found one of my favorite necklaces that went missing 2 months ago.  Three cheers for a productive day!  Good luck!  Rest well tonight!
